The Final Conference of the EUALGAE COST Action, held last 26-27 February 2019 in the premises of IMDEA Energy in Madrid (Spain), consisted of 2-day sessions of oral presentations and a 1-day Management Committee meeting. The objective was to present the most recent developments in the field of microalgae biotechnology. In addition, the future prospects of this promising biotechnology were discussed on the basis of the main results of the EUALGAE COST Action.
There was a huge interest for participation among the Action members and finally 61 researchers from 21 countries had the opportunity to participate in the event.
A total of 32 oral presentations were made, organized in blocks by the Working Groups and, in addition, two keynote lectures were given by Prof. Avigad Vonshak (Ben-Gurion University, Israel) and Prof. F. Gabriel Acien (University of Almeria, Spain). As a result, a special issue of the journal Algal Research will be published, consisting of a selection of 20 scientific articles that will address the information provided at the EUALGAE Final Conference and the research collaboration that has been carried out during the development of EUALGAE.
This event closes 4 years of EUALGAE COST Action, where more than 180 researchers met and established collaborations between them, 47 STSM were held and a large number of publications and joint proposals were developed.

1 – 3 March 2017
Venue: Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical technology, University of Ljubljana (Slovenia)
The third Working Group (WG) meeting of the EUAlgae COST Action was held in the premises of The Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical technology of Ljubljana in Slovenia from 1st to 3rd March 2017. This was the biggest meeting organized in the framework of EUAlgae Action. Local support for the organization of this meeting was kindly provided by Dr. Marina Klemencic (SI) and Dr. Marko Dolinar (SI).

The objective of the meeting was to involve the industries into the interdisciplinary discussion platform for collaboration on the different steps involved in the processes related to production of algae bioproducts and to try to fill the gap between the research and industry sector. EUAlgae participants had the opportunity to listen and identify the problems of the industries in these processes and set the basis of collaboration for the further improvement and commercialization of algae bioproducts. A total of 11 industries working in the field of utilization of microalgae biomass for sustainable fuels and fine chemical products took part in the meeting.
In addition to presentations and lively discussions, on the first day of the meeting, prof. Christiane Funk from Sweden, held a talk about the project MicroBiorefine she is coordinating.
The participants also had the opportunity to visit the AlgaeBioGas demo centre in the suburbs of Ljubljana, where a short explanation and demonstration of the facility (algal treatment of biogas production plant digestate) was held.
